Benjy Bronk Finishes the New York City Marathon in Over 8 Hours

Plus, the Stern Show staffer pranks Wack Packer Medicated Pete

It might not have been a photo finish, but it was a finish. After much controversy, Stern Show staffer Benjy Bronk walked his way to the finish line of Sunday’s New York City Marathon with a time of 8:22:55. “I’m not putting down anybody that walks … But I mean, he’s not that old of a guy,” Howard said Monday morning of Benjy, who beat just two people in his age group.

Both Howard and co-host Robin Quivers were stuck on Benjy’s food consumption, which included an entire frozen pizza prior to the race and several Clif bars during it. “He ran with so many Clif bars in his pocket for snacks that it weighed down his pants—they kept falling out of his pants,” Howard noted.

“You don’t need Clif bars to walk, that’s for people who are running,” Robin added.

“I know you could survive but I was concerned, and I was very nervous about being prepared for it,” Benjy explained while still wearing his racing bib and medal from the day before. “I’m sure I overdid it, but I was like, ‘What if I get way too hungry … and that hunger keeps me from finishing?’”

At times going at a pace of over 19 minutes per mile, Benjy was forced to do much of the race in the dark. “I was with a group of people, and we almost got lost up in the Bronx,” he admitted before recalling some of his faster opponents. “There were elderly people limping in front of me and I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get in front of them.”

Despite the challenges, the staffer appeared satisfied with his output. “I was really proud of finishing, you said I’d never finish,” he told Howard.

While Howard might have been critical of Benjy’s performance during the marathon, he praised him for his recent prank call to Medicated Pete, in which he expressed an attraction to the Wack Packer’s mother.

“That’s a tough one,” Pete said after hearing the proposition. “I would actually have to think about it.”

To try and sway Pete, Benjy then turned things up a notch with some roleplay. “At first … it was strange, and it was funny,” the staffer said of the interaction. “But then …  it got sexy. It was a weird turn-on kind of feeling.”
