Howard Analyzes Phoebe Bridgers’ Guitar-Smashing ‘SNL’ Performance
“The guitar’s winning the fight,” Howard recalls telling wife Beth Stern
Rocker Phoebe Bridgers has a lot of people talking about her recent debut performance on “Saturday Night Live” and Howard took time Wednesday to address the controversy. “She was smashing the guitar … I don’t know what happened but nothing happened to the guitar,” he noted of Bridgers’ challenges with breaking her instrument. “I said to my wife, ‘The guitar’s winning the fight.’”
While the stunt inspired a debate between musicians David Crosby and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Howard’s longtime colleague and noted guitarist Fred Norris had his own thoughts. “I think she just wanted to make a statement,” he explained. “She’s also 26 years old, I mean what the fuck?”
“I mean, we are all talking about it so maybe she wins,” Howard agreed.
