VIDEO: Marvel Showcases Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson’s Greatest Hits in Nostalgia-Heavy ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer

Fellow Stern Show guests Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, and Paul Rudd also star in the April 26 superhero sequel

Marvel released a new “Avengers: Endgame” trailer on Tuesday focusing less on the big fight ahead of the fearless superhero team and more on the long road they’ve taken leading up to this point.

The nostalgia-heavy clip begins with a voiceover line of dialogue from Avengers’ head honcho Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). “Heroes. It’s an old-fashioned notion,” Jackson says over images of fellow Stern Show guest Robert Downey Jr. putting on his Iron Man outfit for the very first time.

The trailer then picks up speed, breezing through Chris Evans’ “Captain America” films, Chris Hemsworth’s “Thor” films, and each of Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner’s “Avengers” films, during which their characters Black Widow and Hawkeye teamed up with Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the other superheroes to repeatedly save the Earth from destruction.

The two-minute traipse down memory lane offers a look at the shared Marvel universe’s fringe heroes, too, including Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and his misfit “Guardians of the Galaxy” gang,” Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, and Paul Rudd’s “Ant-Man,” a character the actor spoke about at length during his 2015 sit-down with Howard.

But what’s past is prologue for these heroes and all their previous adventures have only led them to their upcoming clash with the genocidal intergalactic warlord Thanos (Josh Brolin) in “Avengers: Endgame,” which does get teased in the trailer’s waning seconds.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film also stars Don Cheadle, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, and past Stern Show guests Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau, to name just a few.

“Avengers: Endgame” opens April 26.
