Two downtrodden pals vow to kill each other at the end of the day in the trailer for Jerrod Carmichael’s darkly comedic thriller “On the Count of Three.”

The comedian, filmmaker, and recent Stern Show guest stars alongside Christopher Abbott (“Black Bear”) in the indie film, playing Val and Kevin, two chronically depressed besties who embark on one final adventure before putting themselves out of their misery. Wild though their last ride may be Carmichael’s character insists Papa Roach’s suicide song “Last Resort” will not be part of the soundtrack to their journey.

“You can’t listen to music that exactly describes the emotional thing you’re going through. You know how cheesy that is?” Val tells Kevin (above). “I’m not listening to Alanis Morrissette during a breakup, and I’m not listening to Papa Roach on the day I’m going to kill myself.”

Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch wrote “On the Count of Three,” which co-stars Tiffany Haddish and fellow Stern Show guests Henry Winkler and J.B. Smoove. It serves as the feature film directorial debut for Carmichael, best known for starring in everything from “Neighbors” and on NBC’s “The Carmichael Show” to his own comedy specials “Love at the Store” and “Rothaniel.” He also made his “Saturday Night Live” guest hosting debut in April before sitting down with Howard on Wednesday for a conversation about his life and career.

“On the Count of Three” opens digitally and in select theaters on Friday, May 13.
