Perhaps fueled by the recent Stern Show appearances of nominees the Foo Fighters and Tom Morello (along with the rest of Rage Against the Machine), Howard on Wednesday announced that for the first time ever, he submitted a vote for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I get this thing and I said, ‘You know what? What the fuck, I’ll vote,’” he explained to co-host Robin Quivers of receiving the glossy booklet filled with each nominee for the 2021 class. “I voted in the Go-Go’s, Carole King, Rage Against the Machine, the Foo Fighters, and Tina Turner.”

While he described each of the nominees as “super-talented,” Howard broke down how he came to his final selections. “I’m a huge Foo Fighters fan so I was like, ‘Okay, there’s a no-brainer,’” he noted. “Then I saw the Go-Go’s … I don’t believe the Go-Go’s got credit for being a good band. They were just kind of treated … like a novelty group but they had a lot of hits.”

Carole King, who was inducted as a songwriter in 1990 with former partner and husband Gerry Goffin, was also a given. “She’s Carole King, she wrote ‘Tapestry,’ like one of the biggest selling albums of all time – hit after hit after hit,” Howard said of his decision.

After asserting his love for Rage Against the Machine helped in securing that band’s spot, Howard gushed over Tina Turner, who was a part of the 1991 class with Ike Turner. “This woman was huge, she’s got an incredible voice, incredible talent … I said immediately, ‘She’s going in.’”
