VIDEO: Miley Cyrus Teams Up With Elton John and Rob Trujillo to Cover Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’

Pop superstar also teases her new Pride Month special with a cover of Cher’s “Believe”

From rock to pop, Miley Cyrus has once again proved she can do it all.

The dynamic musician and repeat Stern Show guest released two vastly different covers this week, a star-studded rendition of Metallica’s smoldering power ballad “Nothing Else Matters” (above) and a drag-fueled version of Cher’s chart-topping dance anthem “Believe” (below).

For “Nothing Else Matters,” Miley teamed up with legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, frequent collaborator Watt, and two recent Stern Show guests: Sir Elton John and Metallica’s own Robert Trujillo.

The cover appears on “The Metallica Blacklist,” the band’s recently announced project commemorating the 30th anniversary of its seminal “Black Album” from 1991. In addition to a reissue of the record, the 5-CD “Blacklist” boasts a 53-cover tribute to its songs, featuring artists like Chris Stapleton, Weezer, Royal Blood, Jason Isbell, Alessia Cara, and Phoebe Bridgers in addition to the likes of Miley and Sir Elton.

Cyrus’s Cher cover doubles as a teaser for “Stand by You,” her Pride-themed concert featuring special guests ranging from Little Big Town to past Stern Show guest Maren Morris. In the “Believe” video, Miley sparkles on stage amid a line of equally fashionable drag queen backup dancers.

“Is it even a Pride special if you don’t play Cher?!” Miley wrote in a comment accompanying the clip. “The answer is no! #Believe me this show is going to be everything!”

These aren’t the first instances of Miley covering popular tunes which run the musical gamut. On the Stern Show alone she’s wowed fans with live performances of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers,” Hole’s “Doll Parts,” and “Edge of Midnight,” a mash-up she created melding her original tune “Midnight Sky” with Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen.”

“Stand by You” streams Friday, June 25 on Peacock. “The Metallica Blacklist” ships Sept. 10.
