JD Harmeyer Feels Conflicted About Enjoying O.J. Simpson’s ‘Naked Gun’ Movies

On Wednesday morning, movie buff, aspiring director, and longtime Stern Show staffer JD Harmeyer made a surprising on-air admission: he still enjoys the movies of embattled superstar O.J. Simpson. Specifically, JD appreciated the N.F.L. star turned convicted felon and alleged murderer’s portrayal of Nordberg in David and Jerry Zucker’s zany “Naked Gun” franchise.

“It’s just funny. He’s funny and charismatic. I’m not necessarily proud of it. I’m not happy with myself about it,” JD said, adding, “I see Nordberg. I don’t see O.J. Simpson.”

Howard and co-host Robin Quivers could hardly believe their ears. Not only did the staffer defend watching the movies, but he’d also apparently seen them enough times to memorize Simpson’s relatively minor character’s name.

“I love Nordberg, not O.J.,” JD said before going on to insist “The Naked Gun” films are “some of the greatest movies to ever be made.”

Howard was curious if and where his staffer would draw the line. “Would you attend a Nordberg film festival?” he asked.

“I don’t know,” JD responded through a fit of giggles. “I’d have to see who else shows up.”

“What if I told you that you could be the director of ‘Nordberg: The Movie?’” Howard continued.

“No, I can’t,” JD said. “[But] if the Zucker brothers got together with O.J. and made a Nordberg movie, I’d probably watch it.”

Curious if he’d indulge other controversial celebrities, Howard invited JD to weigh in on everything from the watchability of Mel Gibson’s “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Cosby Show” reruns to whether or not he’d still eat at Subway.

Though JD swore he hadn’t chowed down on a Subway sub in quite some time, it apparently had nothing to do with the conviction of the company’s former face, Jared Fogle. “He was the spokesman,” JD told Howard. “He didn’t make the sandwiches or anything.”
