The final trailer for Martin Scorsese’s epic gangster film “The Irishman” begins at a funeral. Aging hustler and hitman Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) watches on as a body is put into the ground.

“It’s over. They’re all gone,” a man with a badge says. “Frank, it’s time. It’s time you say what happened.”

Spanning the course of several decades, the film follows Sheeran as he returns home from World War II and gets sucked into a life of organized crime. What starts out as a job driving trucks for Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and the Teamsters union escalates into something far more violent after De Niro’s character aligns himself with legendary mafioso Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci).

“I was one of 1,000 working stiffs until I wasn’t no more. Russell, he took a shine to me right away. After a while he started giving me little things to do,” De Niro explains over images of sidewalk murders, exploding taxi cabs, and dangling slabs of beef.

Frank eventually reaches the top of the organized crime food chain and Bufalino gifts him a fancy gold ring. “Only three people in the world have one of these, and only one is Irish. You know how strong I made you?” Pesci says.

Written by Steven Zaillian, “The Irishman” also stars Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel, Jesse Plemons, Bobby Cannavale, and 2019 Stern Show guest Sebastian Maniscalco, who discussed the film at length during his January visit and told Howard all about what it was like to work alongside some of Hollywood’s all-time greats.

The Irishman” is in theaters now and arrives Nov. 27 on Netflix.
